I got some help from Sheryll Booger and

Michael Mangiafico with my exploding bug problem, here are todays successes. ~ Sans cracks

Thurs
March, 9 Dream ~ I have a computerized knitting machine, I've designed an almond shape sculpture that is made from green wool fibers with orange dots. There is a lot of texture in it, I watch as the machine creates my design. fin.
Dream ~ I'm packing. I've got three suitcases and I'm filling them up. I'm in a camp cabin type of situation. I keep finding more things to pack, and more room in my suitcases to put the stuff in. Some one is talking to me and keeping my company while I pack, I'm pretty sure it is June. I find some shoes under the bed and put them in the front area of the suit case and am impressed with myself for finding this secret compartment to hold more items. I throw in a little necklace I found under the bed just toss it in the suit case. fin.

Luck of Fools

It is only through the kindness of others that I find myself spending time playing with glass, making little mans and crabs and bugs. (albeit, exploding mans) The more I learn the more astounded I am at my exceptional luck. (but then they have been calling me lucky for a long time now)

Have I mentioned how astounded I am that I've been among the people I now call friends? well, it's no small thing and it makes me happy to have been with such quality people.

I really had no idea who Lucio was, well, I saw him in action, I saw him make something at the Gathering in Kentucky. I could tell he knew how to spin a little magic when I saw him work, it was like being allowed to watch a wizard, and I must be pretty smart myself because I knew I was seeing something special, but I didn't know until I got there and watched the parade of gallery owners, other famous artists, etc.... etc... come parading through his studio that I had entered The Glass World, the upper stratosphere of the planets best creators of molten glass. And when I looked up Vittorio on the internet to see who this other teacher was, I LOVED his bugs!! and I had been making these primitive bugs I called cicadas for almost a year so of course I wanted to work with a bug man and wow were my socks blown off, Vittorio and Graciella ~ his wife~ are two astonishing wonderful human beings who I flip thinking I now know them!) And by my class mates, I knew , I KNEW< I had hit the big time by the caliber of students I found myself surrounded by. (that part blew me away as much as the teachers, the famous people shoulder bumpers, .... the class mates, they were the kind of people I would describe if I were to describe a fantasy world of friends) The funniest part of it, is I think my brother has a lot to do with it, and he doesn't even melt glass. He just keeps reminding me to be myself, and allows me to bumble along, in fact, he encourages bumbling. He's a bumble lover! He has helped me accept, well, like heck even love the really wrecked hurt, c lum sy , fool in me. so thanks to everyone who has held my hand, and walked with me in the woods to find my happy trail that I'm on. What's not to love here?

So I'm still working at my 100 mans project. I made a man today with transparent lavender and he's pretty cute, but he is full of cracks. I have a bug, I tried to make the same one 3 times, their legs blow off.. but I'm getting closer to having something worthy of show and tell.

Rebecca and daughter Amy were laughing too hard to capture!

Here are some faces I've been looking for, starting left front clockwise, Sara Sally, Audrey, Markels, John, Ofilia, Vittorio, Lucio, Amy, Jenny, Tori, Margaret (T & M hidden) Amo, Sue, Debbi,
I had one exploding man today, one winged man with lots of cracks but he didn't explode!

Markels and Ofilia, I think this was the day we went and got our two year bus (boat transport) passes.

more morning shots as I goof off before class starts

I woke up this morning, lay in bed and counted forward from 5:30 am. six hours, 11:30 in Murano, the first class is well underway for the second Carnival class. what fun they have now.

What would a pictorial essay of the Land of Murano be with out the picture of the Master Glass Man, Lucio? Lucio and Master Glass Man Vittorio both worked extremely hard to do everything they could to help us understand glass and how to manipulate it. It was a wonder wonderful experience.

Can someone tell me what this building above is?

This adorable man was out walking most mornings when I went out walking. And below from a few minutes earlier.

Mornings in Murano are full of life.

exploding man, I made a dark cobalt transparent man today who's head got too hot and he exploded, here is what is left of him.

Blue man got some architecture today, and he poses by other new architecture made today. Architecture is really difficult! and funny too.

I made two bug bodies today and was going to anneal them before I put on the legs but they both exploded. They have a nice idea though I think with the color game going on their backs.

inside the kiln, exploding bug, mr. yellow from yesterday and blue crab from yesterday.
For anyone wondering how I have time to post all these pictures, and why aren't I making my mans. it's friggin freezing out in my RGP (really great place ~ the name of my shop)
I have a really goofy ventilation system, and now I know what my goal vent system is, here are two shots of the completely professional system in Scuola Bubacco.

I actually did some work, wisely, Markels thought we should get pictures of ourselves working so people wouldn't think all we did was view the scenes and laugh. well, we laughed more than the law allows.

Below two pictures of the man who made me laugh till I fell off my chair, John, at rest, and at work, a light house in a foreign land.

The coop provided ample learning opportunities. No I didn't know I'm not allowed to use my cart from home to gather groceries, and I only happened to see by chance someone weigh their vegetables and add a label, (but others of our group weren't so lucky) and bags cost 3¢ if you don't bring your own, and when they toss your food down the shoot, if you aren't paying attention, the person before or after you gets some of your groceries.
Sunday
The taller man in the middle of these three greeted me the first morning pointing to his watch saying, in Italian, something about the store doesn't open until 8. Well, the second day I had my travel alarm clock a big smile (as before) and he shook his head again, no smile, I walked up to him and showed him my clock, he showed me his watch, my clock was only about 20 minutes fast, (!) so the third day I was so proud of myself, I know what time it was, waited until 10 after 8 all ready with a cute joke about third time being a charm, which I could surely communicate by sign language, and he wasn't there!

Lady Sue, being the well read traveler, knew all about Harry's Bar and insisted we go, when I complained about not paying 14 Euro for a thimble size bellini, she smiled and said, "my treat." We all had a blast, thinking about all the famous people who had preceded us at our very table.

Behind Sue from left to right, Lady Tori, Sir Steve, and Lady Margaret who is Peggy

I procrastinated as long as possible to make a man or crab, I made three millifiori rods. Then made about 3 exploding crabs, finally decided to make the first part of the crab, anneal him tomorrow, then make the legs. My men people exploded also. I think my fan is so humongous that the wind it creates makes it difficult to keep my pieces from exploding, it's pretty cold these days, in the 40's. It is supposed to be colder tomorrow...
