Thurs I pulled two amazing incredible beads out of the kiln today. They turned out better than I dreamed possible.

Spiders. I went to a cabin retreat last spring in Michigan and I came in on the tail end of Sheryll Booger doing a bug demo. She had bought some training from someone who showed her how to make the glass bugs and felt ok showing us but didn't want to fall out of grace with her teacher, by being responsible for a bunch of people all of the sudden flooding the market with glass bugs. I appreciated that and made one bug , who's legs eventually fell off, and quit. Until, I saw a dvd of Lucio Bubacco making a spider, then because I had spent my own money on instruction, I felt I had the "right" to make spiders for sale. And especially did I feel I had the right to sell spiders because I have paid the deposit on a three day class in Italy to study with Vittorio Costantini

($900) and if I pay 900 dollars to learn something I certainly have earned the right to sell spiders. (even though I haven't actually taken the class, I have seen a video which I bought with my money)

Anyway, defending my honor as a "good " lampworker. There are little social norms among us. One of them is not allowed to copy other people, and there are the copy police out there who monitor everything.

Of course, anyone who thinks they are making something unique probably isn't but it all perception.

So in 24 hours I had interest from two people for my glass spiders! nothing for a month or so, then two of them.

and honestly, I can't wait to be copied. It will mean I've made it, so if anyone out there is selling lampwork cicadas, I've made it, because cicada beads are "my" thing.....
